I would never go to the famous Ski Dubai, just because indoor skiing and is boring compared to skiing in the Alps where you have a beautiful view, fresh air and the mountains. On the other hand I asked my friends to come with me to Dubai Mall Ice Rink on a Friday morning to do ice skating. We were a wonderful bunch, we were three girls (from Germany, Bulgaria and Lithuania) and three guys (from India, Sri Lanka and the Philippines.) 50% of this group was fairly good in ice skating while the others where there for the first time and struggeled a bit. But only one gave up completely, while others bravely continued no matter how often they fell. Actually most people on the ice are beginners and only very few do piruettes and more advanced moves. But the main thing is to have fun with your friends and do something different than usually. Afterwards we watched a show of a professional ice-skating couple and then went to the foodcourt together to get the energy back.

Sunday, May 10th, 2009Masdar Institute students and staff are allowed to use the Petroleum Institute’s sport facilities like the modern gym and indoors courts as well as outdoor soccer fields. As days become hotter and the area we live is not suitable for girls jogging alone at night, I usually go to gym after work. It is open till 21:45, so I am usually alone when I go that late. The building has two identical wings with one dedicated to females and one for males. Only the courts at the girls side sometimes are open to the guys in the evenings, when their courts are fully booked. Usually in the UAE the most apartment blocks are equipped with a gym and a pool, sometimes even with sauna facilities.
